Mission Statement

To create a safe space for students of the black diaspora at UC Merced through the four divisions of Black Student Coalition, including Step by BSC, Black Student Coalition Graduate division, and The Tribe by BSC.

Annual Events

  • Homecoming: The event's purpose is the revival of black culture, arts, student involvement, and live performances at UC Merced.
  • The Flea's by BSC: A quarterly event made to support small businesses in the central valley and uplift the Merced community with 40-50 vendors.
  • Winter Dance: Yearly dance hosted at the grand ballroom, typically held in December.

Programs

The Tribe By BSC

The Tribe is a subsidiary of Black Student Coalition with a volunteer program consisting of two tiers: "The Jungle" (entry level) and "The Safari" (focus on shaping and mentoring future leaders in cultural advocacy, and preparation for the BSC E-board). The Tribe's meetings are on Mondays at 6 pm.

Step By BSC

Step by BSC is bringing the art of step back to campus. This Step dance team features ten members, all trained in step, for live performances in and out of the Merced community.

Black Student Coalition Graduate Division

Black Student Coalition Graduate Division is a safe space for students of the black diaspora with monthly meetings in Glacier 135 at 7 pm.
